Warranwood Primary Winning Entry

Giant head louse part of Warranwood’s winning formula

It’s not often that head lice can inspire art but a 10 kilogram mosaic of a giant louse was a key feature of Warranwood Public School’s winning entry in Ego Pharmaceutical’s MOOV Community Grant project.

The slightly unorthodox approach has earned the school $5,000 which will go towards the construction of an outdoor play-based learning area for their prep students.

Principal of Warranwood Public School, Steve Albon’s first reaction to the mosaic creation was “I never thought a louse could look so beautiful.

We’ve entered into numerous funding initiatives without any luck but Andrea Carydias, a parent and school councillor who managed the application, put in an extraordinary effort, along with others and the mosaic highlights that effort and creativity.

The entire school is thrilled and thanks to Ego Pharmaceuticals, a dusty corner of the school can now be turned into an outdoor learning area with a freeform sandpit, seating and garden beds,” Mr Albon said.

Leah Coghlan, Senior Brand Manager of MOOV who visited the school to present the cheque said there’s no doubt the giant mosaic made Warranwood stand out from other 504 applications from around the country.

“Working within the head lice category you can spend a lot of time talking and reviewing articles about head lice but I’ve never contemplated a louse mosaic. It definitely got everyone talking within Ego.

Another stand out was the work that went into Warranwood’s submission and the broader school community’s readiness to help out with the construction of the play area, which just lacked the funds to get started,”  Ms Coghlan said.

Steve Albon added, “With the money secured, plans are being finalised and work should commence next month and students will shortly be able to enjoy play based learning activities inside and outside of the classroom.”

Ms Coghlan said the MOOV Community Grants allowed the entire staff of Ego to give back to local communities and also raise specific issues around head lice and effective natural based treatments like MOOV Head Lice.
